The stand is built so that the laptop appears to float above the desk with nothing holding it up. It is a geometry trick, not a gimmick: the load runs through a hidden cantilever, which is also why the space under the screen stays completely free.

What it does for your neck

Raising the screen towards eye level is the single change that does most for a laptop workstation. Without it you look down all day, and the weight of your head loads the cervical spine at an angle. With a raised screen you also gain space underneath for an external keyboard, which is where a split keyboard finally fits.
