Thirty-four keys is as far as the minimal keyboard idea goes. There is no number row, no separate modifier columns and no keys you have to reach for. Everything you need sits under your fingers, and the rest lives on layers.
This is not a first keyboard. It is for someone who already knows layers suit them and wants to go as low as it gets.
My name is Jan Falba. Since 2014 I have built every keyboard here myself: I mill the case on my own CNC, solder the electronics, test it on macOS, Windows and Linux, and pack it for shipping. Yours gets built once you order it.
The Zyra uses a column-staggered ergonomic layout with three rows and a thumb cluster. Numbers, symbols, function keys and arrows all live on layers: hold a layer key with your thumb and the same keys become whatever you need.
With a well-designed layer layout you can type faster on 34 keys than on 60, because your finger never travels anywhere. Getting there takes thought and testing, which is why live layout editing matters more here than on any other keyboard.
Until now the switch plate was milled in one piece with the top of the case. At the thickness low-profile switches need, that meant cutting almost all of the material away.
The wooden case is now a frame with mounting points, and the switches are held by a separate 3D-printed PETG plate with a carbon-fibre finish. The build is stiffer and the hot swap sockets survive more switch changes.
Choc is a different family from Cherry MX: a lower housing, shorter travel and different key spacing. Tactile and linear options are available. Hot swap works the same way, so switches push in by hand and come out with a puller, no soldering iron.
Keycaps are FlatKey Pro, 3D-printed from PETG in my workshop, with a shallow dish for your fingertip and chamfered edges, so your finger finds the centre of the key without looking.
A regular keyboard sits your hands too close together and angles your wrists inward. Two independent halves let you place each one shoulder-width apart, exactly where your arms end. There is also room between the halves for a mouse, notebook or tablet.
Add a tilt/tenting kit and the halves angle inward until your thumbs sit higher than your pinkies. This changes the position of your hands and forearms, rather than simply adding a soft pad under your wrists.

The wireless version can also send keystrokes over USB-C when the left half is connected to the computer. Each half has its own 1000 mAh battery, however, and must be charged separately.
The wireless version costs more because each half needs its own controller and its own battery.
Keys, layers and the main layout functions are changed directly in the VIAL app or ZMK Studio, depending on the version you choose. There is no need to compile firmware yourself, create a GitHub account or wait for a build to finish.
Connect the keyboard, edit the layout and save it. The new configuration works immediately.
I mill the frame from bamboo or acacia on my own CNC and hand-finish it with two coats of a lacquer also intended for finishing wooden toys. A full PETG version is available too, in black or white.
In the standard FalbaTech configuration the left half connects to your computer and the right half talks to it wirelessly or over a cable, depending on the version. Together they behave as a single keyboard.

I mill, solder, sand, finish, test and pack every keyboard myself. I repair every keyboard I have ever built, whether it left this workshop in 2014 or yesterday. You pay for parts and shipping, the work itself is on me.
Are 34 keys really enough? For typing, yes, but it needs a well-thought-out set of layers and a few weeks of adjustment. If this is your first ergonomic keyboard, start with the Corne FT.
How is Choc different from Cherry MX? Choc is lower, has shorter travel and different key spacing. MX keycaps do not fit it.
Can I switch to Cherry MX later? Not in the same case. It is a separate build, so the profile is a decision you make at the start.
Do I need to know how to code? No. You edit the layout visually in the VIAL app or ZMK Studio, depending on the version you choose.
How long does it take to make? The standard lead time is around 15 working days. Every keyboard is built by hand after the order is placed. During busier periods, or when storms cause power outages in the rural area where my workshop is located, it may take slightly longer.
Will I get an invoice? Yes. FalbaTech is a registered Polish business.
