Sofle FT Solo, one half, one hand

This is a single half of the Sofle FT, built and flashed for one-handed use. Pick the left or the right hand and I prepare the firmware accordingly before shipping.

Twenty-nine keys plus an optional rotary encoder. That is a rare combination: keys and a knob under one hand, so volume or timeline scrubbing happen without moving your arm.

It was made for gamers who want a keypad under one hand, for designers and editors holding a mouse, pen or tablet in the other, and for anyone working one-handed, by necessity or by choice.

My name is Jan Falba. Since 2014 I have built every keyboard here myself: I mill the case on my own CNC, solder the electronics, test it on macOS, Windows and Linux, and pack it for shipping. Yours gets built once you order it.

What it is good for

A gaming keypad: every bind under one hand, no reaching for distant keys.
A macro pad for graphics software, video editing and CAD.
A wireless number pad when you use a compact keyboard.
A full one-handed keyboard built on layers.

Left or right hand

Solo is a single half. Pick left for the classic gaming keypad position, or right if your mouse lives on the left. I prepare the firmware for the hand you choose, so it works on its own as soon as you plug it in.

Standard layout or FrogPad style

When ordering you choose how the layout should be prepared.

Standard layout is simply one half of the keyboard with the letters where they sit on the full version. A good choice if you want a gaming keypad, a macro pad or a number pad, and your typing happens on another keyboard.

FrogPad style is a layout designed from the ground up for typing with one hand. It takes after the classic FrogPad from the early 2000s, a device that has not been produced for years. The principle is simple: the most frequently used letters sit directly under your fingers on the base layer, and the rest of the alphabet, the numbers and the symbols come from holding a layer key and pressing a second key, a little like playing a chord on an instrument.

Your hand barely moves, so once the pattern is in muscle memory you write full sentences with one hand while the other stays completely free. It is meant for people typing one-handed by necessity or by choice, and for anyone whose other hand is permanently occupied with a mouse, a pen or a tablet.

The keyboard ships with your chosen layout already flashed and ready to use. That is only a starting point though: every key, layer and combo can be refined later, to fit your hand and the language you write in.

Layers and macros

A one-handed keyboard lives on layers. Hold a layer key with your thumb and the same keys become numbers, function keys, media controls or your own macros. Ideal for game binds, shortcut-heavy software and stream control.

Keys, layers and the main layout functions are changed directly in the VIAL app or ZMK Studio, depending on the version you choose. No firmware compilation and no GitHub account.

Wired or wireless

Wired connects over USB-C, runs on an RP2040 controller and is configured in VIAL. No battery, no charging.

Wireless connects over Bluetooth Low Energy, runs on a nice!nano v2 controller and is configured in ZMK Studio. It has its own 1000 mAh battery and can also send keystrokes over USB-C when plugged into the computer.

The wireless version costs more because it needs its own controller and battery.

Switches you change without soldering

Hot swap sockets mean switches push in by hand and come out with a simple switch puller. Eight Cherry MX options. I source them directly from Germany and use genuine Cherry MX switches.

Wood, not moulded plastic

I mill the case from bamboo or acacia on my own CNC and hand-finish it with two coats of a lacquer also intended for finishing wooden toys. A PETG version is available too, in black or white.

One person builds it. The same person repairs it

I mill, solder, sand, finish, test and pack every keyboard myself. I repair every keyboard I have ever built, whether it left this workshop in 2014 or yesterday. You pay for parts and shipping, the work itself is on me.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add the second half later? They do not combine into a full keyboard, because Solo has its own firmware and configuration. If you want the full set, order the two-piece Sofle FT.

Can I actually type on it, not just press shortcuts? Yes, but it takes learning a layer layout. The more keys the half has, the easier it is.

Do I need to know how to code? No. You edit the layout visually in the VIAL app or ZMK Studio, depending on the version you choose.

How long does it take to make? The standard lead time is around 15 working days. Every keyboard is built by hand after the order is placed. During busier periods, or when storms cause power outages in the rural area where my workshop is located, it may take slightly longer.

Will I get an invoice? Yes. FalbaTech is a registered Polish business.
