The Atreus62 is the same idea as the Atreus42, only with a number row and a full set of modifiers. Sixty-two keys are enough to type almost as fast on day one as you do on a regular keyboard.
It is the gentlest way into ergonomics that I offer. The arrangement of the keys changes, but nothing you are used to disappears.
My name is Jan Falba. Since 2014 I have built every keyboard here myself, and yours gets built once you order it.
The Atreus62 uses a column-staggered ergonomic layout with slightly angled zones for each hand, milled from a single piece. Your index finger reaches farther, while your pinky has a shorter reach, so movement happens up and down rather than sideways at an angle.
It is still one keyboard, so you cannot spread the zones as wide as the halves of a split build. In exchange there is no cable between halves, nothing to set up, and you can move the whole thing with one hand.
| Feature | Wired | Wireless |
|---|---|---|
| Firmware | VIAL | ZMK |
| Connection | USB-C | Bluetooth LE and USB-C |
| Configuration | VIAL app or compatible browser version | ZMK Studio, browser |
| Controller | RP2040 | nice!nano v2 |
| Power | from the USB cable | one 1000 mAh battery, charged over USB-C |
The Atreus is a one-piece board, so the wireless version needs only one controller and one battery. That is why it costs less to go wireless here than on a split keyboard.
Keys, layers and the main layout functions are changed directly in the VIAL app or ZMK Studio, depending on the version you choose. Connect the keyboard, edit the layout and save it. The new configuration works immediately.
Hot swap sockets mean switches push in by hand and come out with a simple switch puller, no soldering iron. Eight Cherry MX options, from light 45 g Reds to heavy 70 g clicky Greens. I source them directly from Germany and use genuine Cherry MX switches.
I mill the case from bamboo or acacia on my own CNC and hand-finish it with two coats of a lacquer also intended for finishing wooden toys. Every piece has different grain, so no two keyboards look alike. A PETG version is available too, in black or white.
I mill, solder, sand, finish, test and pack every keyboard myself. I repair every keyboard I have ever built. You pay for parts and shipping, the work itself is on me.
How is it different from the Atreus42? It adds a number row and more modifiers, which makes the switch gentler, but the keyboard takes up more space.
Is this a split keyboard? No. It is one case with angled zones for each hand.
Do I need to know how to code? No. You edit the layout visually in the VIAL app or ZMK Studio.
How long does it take to make? The standard lead time is around 15 working days.
