oriBag: Why My Keyboards Travel in Felt, Not in a Hard Case

A felt case cut to the outline of your split keyboard: how oriBag is made, why felt protects better than a rigid shell, and how to pick the right size.

Why a felt case for a split keyboard

A keyboard I spend days building by hand should not travel wrapped in a T-shirt. That is why I started making oriBag: a felt case cut to the outline of one specific keyboard model, so the board sits snugly inside and does not slide around or knock against your laptop in a backpack. Hundreds have left my workshop over the last three years, and not one has come back because it failed.

Folded like origami

Small cases are cut from a single piece of 5 mm felt. Larger keyboards take two pieces, the biggest three. The main pocket closes with a magnet, so the keyboard comes out in one smooth motion. Undo the snaps and the whole case unfolds flat, so when you are not travelling it takes almost no space in a drawer, unlike a hard case.

No seams, no zips, no weave

There are no seams to split and no zip to jam. Felt has no weave either, so there are no threads to fray or pull loose. The snaps and rivets are military-spec hardware that does not fall off and does not pop open in a bag.

Why felt and not a hard shell?

Felt is light and springy and it absorbs impact, so it protects a keyboard better than a rigid case of the same thickness. I use 100% recycled PET felt made in Poland. It carries a hygiene certificate from the Polish National Institute of Hygiene, so it is tested for skin contact.

Which oriBag do I need?

• Pick your keyboard on the product page: from 36-key boards like Corne mini, Ferris Sweep or Zima, through Corne, Kyria, Sofle, Lily58, Iris, Redox and ErgoDox, up to ZSA Moonlander, Kinesis Advantage and classic 60% or TKL boards.

• 2 pockets for the keyboard only, or 3 pockets with room for a cable, adapter and spare keycaps.

• Grey or black felt, with an optional webbing shoulder strap 3D printed in my workshop.

• Keyboard not on the list? Send me its width, height and thickness in millimetres and I will draw a new pattern. The largest oriBag so far was for a full-size Unicomp.

Every oriBag is laser-cut and assembled by me in Poland after you order it. See oriBag in the shop.
